About Draping Course in Virar West
Draping is how many couture garments begin: instead of drafting a pattern on paper, you pin and shape fabric on a dress form and watch the design take shape in three dimensions. It is also the best way to understand how fabric really behaves – how it hangs on the grain, stretches on the bias and folds around the body.
In this course you start with grainlines and a basic draped bodice and skirt, learn to convert draped pieces into paper patterns for cutting, and progress to asymmetry, volume, bias cuts and godet inserts. You then finish garments the couture way, with underpinnings, interfacing and clean finishing, and complete an experimental creative lab with an original design of your own. All draping mannequins and tools are provided.

Draping in Virar – frequently asked questions
What is the difference between draping and flat pattern making?
In flat pattern making you draft the pattern on paper from measurements. In draping you shape the fabric directly on a dress form and then convert it to a pattern. Draping is especially useful for flowing, asymmetric or sculptural designs.
Is this a saree draping course?
No. This is a fashion draping course – you shape fabric on a dress form to design garments and create patterns. It does not teach saree-draping styling. If you are interested in learning saree draping, message us and we will tell you what is currently available.
Do I need to know tailoring before the draping course?
Basic stitching knowledge helps, but the course starts from the foundations – grainlines and a basic draped bodice. If you are new to stitching, our tailoring classes are a good first step.
Do I have to buy a dress form or tools?
No. All draping mannequins and tools are provided during the course.
What are the fees for the draping course?
The full Draping course (Basic and Advanced) costs ₹10,000.
