About Aari Work Classes in Virar West
Aari work – also written Ari, and often called maggam work in South India – is the hooked-needle embroidery behind the richly embellished blouses and lehengas seen at Indian weddings. Worked on a stretched frame with a fine hooked needle, it makes fast, even chain stitches that can be built up with beads, sequins and stones.
Our course covers the Basic and Advanced modules in one structured programme. You start with how to hold the aari hook and control thread tension, move on to floral and paisley motifs, and finish by layering beads, sequins and stones for 3D effects. The course ends with a presentation-ready decorative blouse panel or lehenga border. Batches are limited to six students, so you get close guidance throughout.

Aari Work in Virar – frequently asked questions
What is aari work?
Aari work is a style of embroidery done with a hooked needle on a stretched frame, producing quick chain stitches that can be combined with beads, sequins and stones. It is widely used on bridal blouses and lehengas.
Is aari work the same as maggam work?
Aari work and maggam work refer to the same hooked-needle embroidery technique – “maggam work” is the term commonly used in South India, especially for embroidered blouses. Our course teaches this technique.
Do you teach aari work blouse designs?
Yes. The course ends with a decorative blouse panel or lehenga border. For blouse cutting and stitching, see our blouse classes.
Is aari work the same as zardozi?
No. Zardozi traditionally uses metallic thread and wire with beads, pearls and stones to build raised, ornate designs, while aari work is defined by its hooked-needle chain stitch. The two are often combined on bridal garments. Zardozi is introduced in our Hand Embroidery course.
How many students are in an aari work batch?
Batches are limited to six students.
How much are aari work classes in Virar?
The full Aari Work course (Basic and Advanced) costs ₹12,000.
Do I need to know embroidery before joining?
No. The Basic module starts with how to hold the hook and make a clean chain stitch.
